Curried Neck of Mutton Potjie
  • 1.5kg neck of muttoncut into slices
  • 30ml cooking oil
  • salt and pepperto taste
  • 3 medium onionschopped
  • 250ml water
  • 500g whole baby carrotspeeled
  • 500g whole baby potatoespeeled
  • 20ml sugar
  • 10ml mild curry powder
  • 5ml turmeric
  • 125ml milk
  1. Heat the oil in the pot.
  2. Season the meat with salt and pepper and brown a few pieces at a time.
  3. Remove and set aside.
  4. Fry the onions until tender.
  5. Return the meat to the pot.
  6. Cover the meat with water, replace lid and simmer for 1 hour.
  7. Add the carrots and potatoes and simmer for approximately 30 minutes.
  8. Mix the sugar, curry powder and turmeric with the milk and add.
  9. Simmer for another 15 minutes and gently stir through once. Add more water if the Potjie becomes too dry and simmer for another 15 minutes.
